Dr. Robert Gaucher is a founding editorial member of the JPP and has been general editor since 1994. He has taught at the Department of Criminology at the University of Ottawa (Canada) for over two decades since attaining a doctorate at the University of Sheffield (U.K) in 1982. While teaching in Ottawa he founded the Infinity Lifers Liaison Group which is run by student volunteers, who visit and listen to the concerns of men serving life sentences, and then help represent and communicate their voices to the public. They recently celebrated their 20 year Anniversary.

Dr. Gaucher is a veteran of the prisoners' rights movement in Canada & the U.S.A, and undertook a major homicide study which impacted the Canadian capital punishment debate. He has also been an active participant of ICOPA since 1985 (ICOPA II), co-hosting in 1987, and a supporter of the penal abolition movement. He is one of this country's first members of the new school of critical criminologists, and is currently Editor in-Chief of the JPP.
